Description

Artcore is thrilled to host STAND UP! on International Women’s Day, focusing on discussions related to women, feminism, gender and equality. This upcoming year, we draw inspiration from the United Nations’ mandate, DigitALL or “Digital for All,” aiming to open up discussions on equality in the digital era and narrow the gender gap in technology use.

Given our extensive reliance on technology for various aspects of our lives, being connected is pivotal for empowerment. According to the UN, “a global analysis of 133 AI systems across industries found that 44.2 percent demonstrate gender bias,” and that “women make up only 22 percent of artificial intelligence workers globally.

“The absence of access to tech infrastructure hinders development, growth, and access to existing and new opportunities, contributing to a slowdown in progress. While there’s digitisation in payments, healthcare, and a surge in online learning, the critical question remains: How many people are proficient in using these tools?
Many women also encounter online abuse, a pressing issue that must be tackled for any meaningful progress—every minute, individuals are using AI to manipulate photographs of women, morphing them into different identities.

The use of technology comes with numerous challenges, and to unlock its full potential, it is imperative that women have the opportunity to learn, access, and creatively utilise technology.

This exhibition will explore this concept from various perspectives, focusing on themes already addressed in individual practices and areas that participants feel comfortable discussing.
